Safari mail off-line and can't send mail?

I'm using Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on my MacBook Pro. While incoming Safari Mail seems to be working fine, more often than not, I can't send mail. On further investigation with Connection Doctor, I can connect to the Internet, but my SMTP outgoing pop A/C is offline, and I cannot send mail. Is there a solution to going online to correct this problem? Many thanks.

Do you really mean Safari - the web browser? If so, you should contact your mail service for support. If you mean Mail - the program, (the little postage stamp icon in the Dock), have a look here:

Correct. This problem relates to Mac Mail, and has nothing to do with the Safari browser. Had already read the troublshooting link beforehand, but it says nothing about how to correct the proboem of mail being Offline. I still can't send mail, and the SMTP server is shown to be Offline. Is there not a simple solution to edit, or reset, outgoing mail to being ONLINE?

Ok, with the use of Connection Dr, the Status of Incoming Pop Mail A/C confirms that my connection and login to the server succeeded; however, the Outgoing Smtp A/C confirms that there was no connection to the server. Also confirmed with my ISP that the Port settings were correct, but still no luck sending mail.

Next, in the Advanced Tab of Mail Preferences, I deselected the SSL box, and VOILA, my outgoing mail works fine. Hopefully, this has resolved the problem.
