how to remove Trojan.Malscript!html?

I ran a scan with Norton, it detected Trojan.Malscript!html but repair failed. the infected file is in Microsoft User Data file - in Message Sources. I did not attempt to delete because when doing that Norton requested my admin access making me believe that it's a file essential for the application (Entourage probably). so I did not do that.

what would you advise? thanks! Irena

First, check if it was a "false positive" or not. Download Sophos or ClamXav, and run a scan. Then, if it doesn't detect any virus, ignore it.

If it's a virus, it's a Windows virus, so there isn't anything to worry about

how should I understand the Norton then??

Antiviruses fail. You would be surprised if you see how many "falses positives" an antivirus can detect. Also, Norton isn't one of my favourite antiviruses. I always recommend Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows, and for OS X, nothing.

Based on http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2008-011517-3725-99 I would say this is not a false positive, but almost certainly of no threat to you. It's probably in a browser cache, which means that if it was going to cause harm it would have happened when you visited the site and probably would have required you to click on something to activate it. Even then, it would almost certainly only worked on a Windows PC.

In any case, I do not believe it's worth your spending any more of your time on it.
