Hello sorry to bother. I just purchased a macbook pro less than 2 months ago. I accidentally installed Geneio into my macbook pro. I have followed all detailed instructions in order to remove it completetly from my laptop. Unfortunately when I click on safari, the Geneio homepage still is running. Can someone please give me the instructions step by step to remove this homepage and set up my apple store homepage?

Thank you

Then how do I completely remove it from my computer? I did not want it downloaded or installed, but it appeared when I updated my flash player. Now I am getting countless pop-up ads, coupon and shopping suggestions in the middle of the page that I'm trying to read and my browser has been running super slow since this happened. (using firefox). I have tried all the suggestions and all the uninstall options I have found on the internet and am beyond annoyed at this point that it has taken over my web browser without my approval. If I end up having to take my computer somewhere to get it fixed or the programremoved, I will be very upset that I have to spend money because of your lousy spyware.

The behavior you describe is not Genieo related.

Does Genieo exist in your application folder?

Is your home page search.genieo.com?

If the answer is no, then Genieo is not on your computer.

If the answer is Yes, than you did no followed all instructions we provided.

Please provide a screen shot of what you think is Genieo on your computer and I'll do my best to help you remove it.

As earlier posts have indicated, Genieo has been known to be downloaded after clicking on fake Flash update notices. When updating Flash, you must be extremely cautious... never upgrade from such an update notice, as web sites often display fake ones. Instead, go to the Flash pane of System Preferences and update from there, or go to:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer

No other source should be trusted.

As to removing Genieo, fortunately, it does seem to be easy enough to remove, following their instructions here:

http://www.genieo.com/faq/#q20

If those instructions don't work for you, then whatever you have got must be different from what is available from Genieo's web site.

I'm sure you would never do this, but somebody was searching for some illegal download, and there are a lot of sites that will offer you one file and give you another. My guess is someone thought they were downloading a "free" copy of something htey should have paid for and they (because you would not do this) were duped, and a bait-and-switch occurred and that is how the file got on your computer.

Here's how to fix it! At least when using the Firefox browser. I am sure there is a similar type fix for Safari and other browsers.

First, this is what was happening to me... I unistalled, I deleted, I trashed, I booted in safe mode. All to none avail. Everytime I searched within the location bar of firefox, genieo still was there in the url pulling up results.

This is how I stopped it (in firefox):

1.typed "about:config" in the location bar

2. A warning appears about voiding your warranty. HIt the "I'll be careful" button

3. In the search bar, search "genieo"

4. ctrl + click the found file and choose "reset" (NOT delete)

This is absolutely coming from fake flash popups. I got one with full Adobe branding, telling me that the Adobe Flash upgrade was required. I clicked it and when I clicked the dmg I saw the InstallGenieo file. Thank goodness I looked it up first!

I haven't been many places today so this one seems to have come from the Adobe site or from YouTube.

Whatever this Genieo "rep" is saying, this is stealth installation and NO ONE should install this on their computer or go to the Genieo website or follow ANY of their instructions.
