Could someone please tell me how to set a power on password for my imac

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

You're right. I could have sworn that document covered Mountain Lion, but now I cannot find any mention of a firmware password for Mountain Lion.


I assume it may have been eliminated now that Mountain Lion's FileVault 2 provides full disk encryption obviating the need for a firmware password.

It's moved a bit, since Lion isn’t distributed on DVD.


The directions are basically the same as for Leopard, except that instead of booting from DVD, you need to boot to the recovery partition by holding down the option key while rebooting, and choosing the Recovery HD.
