The download stack has disappeared from my desktop, and I cannot find the downloads after downloading...not sure where the stack went?! Its probably very simple, but new to Snowleopard and not used to it yet.
OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
Choose Home from the Finder's Go menu and drag it back from there.
