can't change font in Mail

I am unable to change the default fonts and colors in Mail 6.2. I go to Preferences>Fonts & Color> and click the "Select" button. I choose the font I want but then nothing happens. Am I missing the final step to make this change happen?

Running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on a 27" iMac.

Thanks!

HI,

Are you typing after that to see any text in the new Font ?

Or are you highlighting existing text to change the Font but it is not Changing ?

Hi,

When I click the Select Button and choose a Font the Name in the box changes.

Is this not happening for you ?

Hi,

Unfortunately at this point I run out of any further knowledge on the Mail App.

I know more about iChat and the Messages apps.

Hopefully one of the regular posters on the Mail App will also chip in with some comments.

I have a work around you might try.

Add a signature to your email account with whatever font you want. Two steps...like this.

1. Create a new email message:

2. Add a new signature (Mail -> Preferences -> Signatures) and Paste Clip Board into the new Signature editor:

That's All Folks!

Now, when you create new messages, you should find that the format you are looking for is already setup. All you have to do is tweak the Name,

Hope this helps!

FenixRizing04,

I just ran into the same issue today on my 2011 MacBook Air running Mail on OS X 10.10.1. The signature workaround is clever, but I stumbled across a more straightforward approach. First, quite Mail. Then go to ~/Library/Preferences and look for a file named com.apple.mail-shared.plist. (It might not have "-shared" as part of its name, though.) Delete this file. (This won't break anything; it's just a preference file that Mail creates, and it will generate a new one the next time you launch the app.) Launch Mail, and then you should be able to change the default fonts to your liking. It worked for me.

I hope that helped!
