How to mount Images in-use?

Hi folks,

Recently I had a sparse-image shared over network mounted on my notebook. But I forgot to unmount, closed the book and went outside. A few days later I got back and now my image isnt mounted anymore, but appears half-transparent in the finder.

I cant either access, open, copy, delete, scan or repair it. Its totally blocked cauz it seams to be still in use.

Does anyone have an idea how to tell the finder or file that its not in use anymore?

many thanks for help!

kind regards

josh

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:

  • Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
  • When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
  • If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I'm sorry to say so, but this all doesnt help. I did exactly like you recommended, but the disk was ok, nothing to repair. So the problem still exists. What I thought about was, that as the file was opened and in use by a device that didnt unmount it, there must be a remark somewhere, maybe in the ressource fork. I dont know.

Isnt there any kind of command to kill those remarks via terminal?

Back up all data.

Step 1

Hold down the option key and select

Go Library

from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):

  • Caches/com.apple.finder
  • Containers/com.apple.ShareKitHelper

Leave the Library folder open. From the menu bar, select

Force Quit...

then select Finder from the list and press return. If the problem is resolved, stop here. Close the Library folder. If you still have the problem, continue.

Step 2

Move the following item from the open Library folder to the Desktop:

Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Relaunch the Finder again. If the issue is still not resolved, put the item you moved to the Desktop back where it was, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place. You don’t need to replace the files you deleted in step 1. Stop here and post again.

If the Finder is now working normally, recreate your settings.

Hi, did it. No change at all.

But i expected that as I already tried to mount it from the disk tool in restore mode and also from another laptop. And these have other finder preferences and caches too. So its not linked to my system. Seams to be linked to the filesystem or a note in the file itself.

Any other idea? Many thanks so far for your patience!
