Syncing problem

My iPhone 4S and MacBook Air suddenly won't sync. I get the error message "The iPhone [name] cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the selected items (additional 616.5 MB required)." The phone has over 9 GB of free space, so the error message makes no sense at all. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same problem with my iPhone 4. I couldn’t understand why there wasn’t enough space when I only selected certain items to be synced.

Under the “music” tab, I selected “sync music” and selected certain playlist I wanted synced. What I did not know is that under the “albums” section, all of the albums that I purchased via iTunes were checked. I never checked any albums in this section. I figured maybe iTunes automatically checks the albums that you purchase via iTunes.

I had to manually go through all of the albums and uncheck any albums checked. This solved the problem for me; hopefully it will work for you.
