I have iTunes set to download the 1080p versions of movies and TV shows, but I still have a 2nd generation Apple TV that can only show 720p. How can I setup iTunes to download both HD versions? It also seems that when I have iTunes in the Cloud turned on, it doesn't allow me to redownload any of my HD content again.
I also need the 720p version because of the older versions of the iPod I still have.

I ended up getting the proper response from iTunes Support. I forgot to share it with everyone else. Here is how you download both versions of the videos:
iTunes only lets you download one version of a video at a time. As a work around, I would like you to try the following:
- Download the 1080p version of the video first
- Then remove the 1080p version of the video from your iTunes library and save it somewhere else on your computer.
- Now that you have removed the 1080p version go to the iTunes > Preferences > Store
- Change the HD version "when downloading HD videos, prefer." to 720p
- Go to purchase page, the 720p version should download.
I have this problem too - although my iPhone 5 can play 1080p movies, if a 720p versions is available, it will download that... which saves space and really doesn't look any different.
I think the only way is to go into iTunes Store on a device that only supports 720p (like the iPod you mentioned), download the movie from the "Purchased" section. Then, when you next connect the iPod to your computer, make sure you run "Transfer Purchases", and it will add the 720p version to the library.
