With the MP240 connected to the Mac via USB cable, if you open Print & Scan and select to add a printer, does the MP240 appear in this default view?

Thanks Pahu when I open Print&Scan MP does not appear in the default and when I try to add a printer none appear anywhere to pick to install.

    1. First of all, PAHU has been around, and knows his Canon printers, so he'll be a good source of advice.

    2. Perhaps resetting the printing system will help - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341

I reset the printing system and then when I went to add the Canon MP 240  no printers appear in the list to be added and I can't search to find the driver also.

Until the printer does appear then there is no point searching for the driver. You cannot add the printer this way.

So with the printer connected directly to the Mac via USB cable, if it is not appearing in the Default add printer window then the cable could be the cause. If you open System Information, located in Applications > Utilities, and select USB in the left column, the top right pane will show all the USB busses in your Mac. If the Mac can see the printer then the MP240 should be listed under one of these busses. Do you see it? If not, try another USB cable or another USB port on the Mac.
