Q: when i go to add printer it OSX asks me to download software, which I do and still I cannot connect my printer. WHY???

During a printer installation I go to settings and 'add printer'. When I do I get a dialogue box asking me to download software update from Apple, which I do, and still I am not able to 'add printer'.

 

The printer appears in the list of available printers. *** is going on? I am seriously thing of going back to Windows at this rate!!!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

    Have you gotten and installed the relevant printer software from the printer manufacturer?

    Yep, followed all manufacturers installation procudures; 3 TIMES. Still when I come to 'add printer' it asks me to do a software update which now, it says is unavailable. I have done a software update from the Apple menu and it says all my sofware is up to date. I have just wated £40 on a new printer today as I though my other one was goosed. It was doing the same thing!!!
