Can't open QuicktimeMPEG-2 because the file is not recognized

I just purchased QuickTimeMPEG-2, but when I try to open the dmg file from my desktop, a warning window opens saying the file cannot be opened because it is not recognized.

Yes.

Are you really still running Snow Leopard on the platform? This problem is normal for Lion and Mountain Lipn which no longer support this "package" file. You can do any of the following:

1) Open and isntall the component on an older system and then simply transfer the component to the same folder on the problem system.

2) You can download the MPEG Streamclip "beta" software which includes a helper utility which will assist your installation.

3) You can use a utility like Pacifist to install the component.
