iCloud used for webmail

Recently I (accidentally) set up an iCloud account, not realising that the iCloud will not work for iPod Nanos. Following the mistake I decided to go with the flow and see whether or not I could use it as a general webmail and web storage account; however, I found out that I must have a device to use it. Would there be any issues if the iCloud was corrected this way? Examples of what I am comparing the iCloud to are the SkyDrive and Ubuntu One.
