What in Apple Configurator is causing these large files?

Hi there,

I've been working on 150 iPad 2s with the Macbook Air provided to me by my work. The portability of the system is great, however, I'm quickly running out of space on the hard disk. When looking for a way to clean up files I found Disk Inventory X. Using it, I see that about half of my entire 64GB SSD is being used by Apple Configurator. There are hundreds of files ranging from 77KB to 800MB. I thought, at first, that they might be copies of the apps loaded in Configurator and/or backups of the devices. However, I only have 5 backups (which might account for the 700MB+ ones) and I only have 1 app that even breaks 400MB. Does anyone know what I can do differently to not use up so much space? Thanks in advance.

I do not think that you have enough "hd" space. [ boss was too cheap ] You could get an external storage device. Maybe they make 128gig flash drives.

I'd get a large USB30 flash drive & more all apple configure data to the drive. Use symbolic linker to make it llk like data was on ssd.

Even with a small drive, you could move one of the apple configurator folder to the flash drive.

back every thing up once in a while.

usb 3.0

usb 2.0 which I wouldn't recommend . too slow

Try putting the data in a compressed disk image. [ full backup before starting. ] Would get messy when adding data I think.

You can use the Unix command ln to redirect a reference to folder on your small partition to a folder on your larger partition. You need to be careful when you pick the folder. You best avoid any system folder, those folders needed at startup. You could pick some user data folder. Home folders, that is folders in /Users, are a good choice. Please try this when you have a full backup.

An alternative way would be to install SymbolicLinker. SymbolicLinker is a tiny contextual menu plugin that, once installed, allows any user to create symbolic links to files inside the Finder.
