How can I stop the "startup chord" on my iMac?

My iMac plays a loud "chord" when starting up.

I tried all means to get rid of it: I turned off the sound (from the keyboard), I diasbled all alerts (from System Preferences) and finally I plugged a pair of earbuds in the earphone jack and redirected all audio to them.

Nothing worked and I am still "greeted" by the same sound every day and every night during the power-on sequence.

Can anyone please help?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

If nothing works, see > http://osxdaily.com/2012/11/04/disable-mac-boot-chime/

If that doesn't work, try StartUp Ninja > http://osxdaily.com/2012/01/26/mute-mac-boot-chime-startninja-os-x-lion/

Oops, Startup Ninja failed!

Last night I was greeted by the same loud chime when powering up my iMac... and Startup Ninja tells me startup chime is OFF.

Keeping the "Speaker Off" key pressed does not work either: I'm using a wireless keyboard which is "discovered" long after the boot sequence is over.

So, back to case one...

How can I stop the "startup chord" on my iMac?
