I have created a podcast and it shows up in iTunes Store, but the channel's cover art does not.

Can someone shed some light on this?

Here is the RSS feed: http://zach.in.tu-clausthal.de/podcast/feed.rss

And here is the link in the iTunes store: https://itunes.apple.com/de/podcast/marchen/id604406418?l=en&mt=2

The relevant part in the RSS file is this probably:

  <itunes:image href="http://zach.in.tu-clausthal.de/podcast/Hausmaerchen.png" />

I have searched the web and this forum, but none of the posts I found seem to pertain to my case ...

Any hints and pointers will be appreciated.

Best regards,

Gabriel.

The image which appears in the Store is referenced in the feed; but the images which appear when you subscribe and select an episode are not - they have to be actually embedded in the episode's media file. Please see this page for full details:

Thanks a lot for your response!

The web page did help quite a bit.

I can see the channel's cover art fine in iTunes store and it also shows in iTunes.

However, I still have one problem: iTunes does not show the cover art of the episode.

When I click on the episode in iTunes, and then do 'Get Info' , I see only the cover art of the channel.

But I did embed the episode's artwork using iTunes, before I published it, and it shows fine in iTunes when I 'Get Info' on the track.

You can check it here: http://zach.in.tu-clausthal.de/podcast/Allerleirauh.mp3

It does work OK but you have to actually start playing the episode before it appears in the small area at the top of iTunes 11 - click that and you get a larger version. This appears to be a change in iTunes 11.

I tried that but it still shows the same image as the cover art image.

The funny thing is that it works when I play the episode directly in the iTunes Store!

(although I can't click on the thumbnail to see a larger version ...)

I'm not sure what you're expecting to see. When playing the episode on subscribing, the image shows:

    marchen.jpg

and doing a 'get info' confirms that it is the same image. I downloaded the file from the link in your post above and checked the tags:

    idx.jpg

    - same result (as you'd expect). If you were expecting to see something else, it's not anywhere to be found.

Thanks a lot for your response and your tests!

I have now pushed everything to the server again, unsubscribed & deleted the podcasts, and subscribed to it again.

Now, I see the cover art of the episode, but I don't see the cover art of the channel any more on the left side bar:

    c3.png

    is that normal behavior?

    Best regards,

    Gabriel.

That's normal - in iTunes 10 the image which appear in Cover Flow was that of the top episode in the list, and the equivalent is happening here. The podcast image in the feed does not appear anywhere when subscribing.

    Thanks for the clarification!

So it seems questionable to me whether it really makes sense to give each episode its own individual cover art.

People probably will get confused, won't they?

At least, in all the podcasts I have subscribed to the cover art on the left hand sidebar never changes ...

Only you can decide whether you want individual images for the episodes or an overall one - you may feel that individual images add a little extra to it, and I don't think it will worry subscribers.

Podcasts with chapters and an image for each chapter have to be 'enhanced' and m4a, you can't do it with mp3. If you would like to see it in action, you could subscribe manually (from the File menu in iTunes 11 or the Advanced menu in 10 and earlier) to my podcast:

    http://rfwilmut.net/podcastsenh/podcast.xml

Download the top episode, start playing it, then click on the small image in the top of the window (next to the progress bar) to open the larger display with the changing images.

Thanks a lot for the hint! I am planning to do an enhanced podcast later when I've got the other earlier episodes out the door ...

I am extremely sorry , I have just, by accident - clicked on my own post's "solved" button :-(

[why do they even display that button with my own posts?]

Happens a lot.. don't worry about it.
