Logitech wireless Mouse, 24" iMac w/OS10.6.8. No work?

Bought a new (cheap) Logitech M325 wireless mouse. Would not work. Took it back to the store (Best Buy). It was demonstrated as working fine on the stores new display model iMac. However the sales person said I needed to activate it's use thru the Bluetooth function and showed me how. I got a brand new replacement mouse and tried it. No luck. The Blue tooth would not "find" it. Online discussion with Logitech says I got bad advice in that the Bluetooth has nothing to do with it. Just plug it in and it should work. I tried all the troubleshooting ideas they had, such as new batterries and trying different USB ports, keeping the mouse close etc. Logitech says send it back to them and they will give me a new one. Already tried two new out of the box ones. I am suspecting the claim that it works with OS10.6 may be unwarrented. Anyone got a clue as to what could be wrong?

Been to the Logitech site many times.

Not all of their mice models work with Mac and OS X.

Does the box have a Mac OS X Logo on the box somewhere?

If it doesn't have an OS X Logo somewhere on the packaging, then it doesn't work with Macs.

I found this Logitech model of their website.

It says that ot works with OS X 10.5 and greater.

It is the old fashioned wireless Infared style model of wireless mice, not Bluetooth.

The Infared receiver plugs into a available USB port.

You need to plug the receiver into one of the main powered USB ports on the back of the iMac.

You can't plug the receiver into one of the keyboard USB ports as there won't be enough power to power the receiver.

Did you install the latest Logitech Control Center preferences software?

That may make a difference as to whether it works or not.

I too have looked at the Logitech website. For this model mouse I do not see any software available for the Mac. Is there something there I am missing? The scarce instructions that come with the unit make no mention of any software being required. I am plugging the receiver into a main port on the computer. I will try a different port, just in the odd chance I have a bad port.

THANKS !! Downloading that software made the mouse work. I still think it is odd that no mention is made in the instructions with the unit of a need for any software. And also the Logitech software download site for that model mouse lists no software for any Mac. Only thru the help of the Apple community was there a solution.
