Partition using different osx

Hi,

I have 3 computers, tiger, leopard and now mountain lion. Different operating systems can't read the format files from others, eg, mountain lion won't read photos from my previous leopard. Should I get an external hard drive and partition it to boot from the 3 different systems so I can see the files on my previous macs. Have I got this right or could someone point me in the right direction to find a solution to this problem please. Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

An external HDD would work with just one partition to share files. Mountain Lion should be able to read photos from any OS if they are stored in the JPEG format (which most are). What software do you use to manage your photos?

Hi, thanks. I am using iphoto but when I try to view photos from my previous mac (leopard) it says they are not in a current version and wants to update the files. They are indeed jpeg frmat. The photos on the tiger mac are not able to be seen unless I start it in target mode. If I put them all onto one drive it would give me peace of mind that I have a backup and all in one place to tidy up my collection. It is possible isn't it to have several partitions running different osx. Cheers
