ATI 9600 Pro G5 in G4 MDD?

Hey guys,

I notice this has been asked before But, i didnt find a discussion that answered my question specifically. (Mainly because the card im going to discuss is different.)

I have found some good deals on ATI 9600 Pro graphics cards, 128MB memory, 2 DVI ports. (NO ADC pins/connector/port)

But, they are listed for G5 systems. (Apparently they arent flashed PC cards either)

Sooo, my question is, will i be able to use it in a MDD G4?

Specifically a MDD G4 with the Single core 1.25Ghz PPC Processor (2003 model if i recall correctly)

From what i can gather, it will, i'd just need to tape pins 3 and 11 to force the card to 4x AGP instead of 8X but i'd like some opinions/answers before i go buying one. 🙂

Tape the pins and it should be fine in the MDD.

You want OEM, as the flashed 9600 cards typically only output VGA.

I only have an OEM 9600 with an ADC port laying around, so I can't try for you.

The mod to bypass the ADC port is a real PITA, but done right, even that will work in a G4.

I'm starting to think the card im looking at is retail, unless Apple did versions of the 9600 without any ADC?

In fact, if it helps, this is what the card looks like:

No worries about it being a PC card, Seller clearly states its a mac card.

AFAIK Apple never did any cards without ADC (until the move to later, greater display technologies).

From what i can gather, this card seems to have shipped with early 2005 DDR model G5 systems.

I think i'll purchase the card i've got my eye on, if it doesntt work with my MDD G4, i can just keep it incase i ever do get a G5 system 😀

Radeon 9650 also didn't have ADC. Two DVI ports, one dual link.
