Hi,

I'm trying to connect a Lacie Electron 22 Blue III CRT monitor to a new Mac Mini... I have the adaptor (HDMI to VGA), so monitor appear completely black... no signal.

I connected  the Mac Mini to an HDMI TV, and I selected a 1024x768 resolution... so it doesn't work!

Who can help me, please?

Thanks,

ale

    Hi Ale,

I don't understand this part clearly...

I connected  the Mac Mini to an HDMI TV, and I selected a 1024x768 resolution... so it doesn't work!

Can you explain in more detail?

    Hi BDAqua,

I connected  the Mac Mini to an HDMI TV, and I selected the right resolution/Hertz in System preferences/Monitor; then I connected Mac Mini to Lacie monitor, but it doesn't work...

By the way, it seems that a solution is connecting the CRT monitor to the Thunderbolt port by Mini display port-VGA adaptor; are Thunderbolt and Mini display port the same thing???

    Cheers

I'm pretty sure the HDMI output is only digital, so it won't work with a VGA adapter.

The specs for the Mini say VGA is available with the Mini Displayport to VGA adapter connected to the Thunderbolt port.

    Yes,

A notable peculiarity of Thunderbolt is that it uses exactly the same connector as Mini Display Port, and that's not all. The Thunderbolt connector also carries Mini Display Port video signals. That means you can plug a Mini Display Port video cable/adapter in to a Thunderbolt connector and your monitor will work.

If you plan to do other things with your Thunderbolt connector and don't want it wasted on a monitor, you can also choose an HDMI --> DVI adapter, which for your purposes will be functionally equivalent.

You can even use both at the same time.

Except that it won't be functionally equivalent if the Electron Blue monitor doesn't have any digital input. And from what I can find in a quick search, it doesn't.

I wonder f the DVI adapter is DVI-I though, since they do have an MDP->VGA adater???

The Mini specs that I was able to find are not very detailed, but they only mention the MDP as a source for an analog signal, not the HDMI. (And I believe the original HDMI spec was only digital, but some manufacturers hacked it to include analog.)

Oh yeah, I agree on the HDMI port, good catch by the way, I was thinking the TB/MDP port though for VGA or DVI-D output.

    Hi,

thanks to all for your important informations...

I ordered TB/MDP to VGA adaptor; it seems it will be the only way!

But is not sure it will works. Not guaranteed. Incredible.
