Since "upgrading" to OSX ML, I can't receive or send email. Why?

Since "upgrading" to OS X Mountain Lion, I can't receive or send emails in my @icoud or @me mail accounts and when I delete old messages in the Inbox, they come back the next time I check the Inbox. oes anyone know why the mail is this screwed-up? I've been forced to reroute all of my mail to my windows Outlook account to receive them.

Remove the iCloud accounts by unchecking them in Mail, Contacts and Calendars (in System Preferences), reboot and check them again to restart the mail.
