Make a copy of a disk that cannot be repaired! Please Help!
Hello,
When I turned on my MacBook less than a week ago a grey bar appeared. I searched for this on google and found it was trying to repair my hard drive. When the bar got to the end the mac shut off. I then booted up while holding Option (alt) and chose the recovery disk. From there I tried to repair the disk but it cannot be repaired. That explains why it was shutting off. It said "the disk cannot be repaired, back up as many if the files as possible reformat the disk and recover the files".
The problem I am having is that I cannot make a copy of the disk. I am using an external 500GB Iomega HDD connected by USB. I have tried to recover the disk from the mac onto the HDD but it fails also.
I really need to get the files from my mac to another so I can use a different disk repair utility. I have heard that disk warrior is good.
Any help or advice is really appreciated.
I'm running Mountain Lion on a MacBook Mid 2009.
If you need any more info about the computer please ask.
