The play icon on my Ipod touch no longer works

I have been using an iHome with my 3rd generation touch. I have the music playing through the iHome nightly. When I turned on last, it work, however, when I woke this am, the music no longer played. If I attempt to hit play, nothing happens and eventually the pause icon comes up again. Has this happened to anyone? I have already updated my software and reset mulitple times. I have not yet tried resetting to factory settings.

Try resetting the dock

Try:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

iOS: How to back up

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
