I have an iPhone 4s that I bought. I want to fix it, but the LCD is broken and I can't tell if replaceing it would make it work. Is there a way to tell if the phone is on without the screen turning on? (I don't have the phone's number.)

None of us users would be able to tell you that replacing the LCD will make the phone work again.
Your best option is to take it to an Apple store. For 199 they will replace the whole phone and you will get a good as new one. Replacing parts is tricky as other damage could have been done inside it when the screen was broken.
My question was whether or not there is a way to tell if the internals are functioning and that the phone actually does power up. Since the screen is broken, I can't tell.
The iPhone is not considered user servicable. You may be able to find some tips at www.ifixit.com, but there's really nothing we can do to help.
So nobody here knows of anything that shows the phone is woking internally? Is it normal for it not to show up in iTunes just because the screen is broken?
No. That's not normal. It could indicate that there is much more wrong with it, in which case, attempting to repair it yourself is likely a waste of time and money.
