I have noticed the same issue. I do not know for certain about the wifi turning off but I do know that even with the power nap option turned on and the laptop plugged in, that it hasn't backed up or checked for new emails when closed and sleeping. I am not sure what the issue is. I have read some people reinstalling Mountain Lion and that fixing their problem. I'd hate to do that since I just finally got all my programs set up on my macbook pro. I guess I can do a TM backup then reinstall the OS then restore my documents. It sounds like a pain but maybe that is the only way?

I also noticed that finder was acting funny when I first got my laptop. I had to restart it for finder to remember preferences etc. I am not sure if that is also a symptom of what is causing this.
