I purchased my MBP in late 2011. a couple weeks ago my battery stopped being recognized and i went to the genius bar. they wanted me to pay $129 for a battery replacement but i instead purchased my battery from amazon. same EXACT battery. and it still doesn't work. any suggestions?

You didn't connect it properly.
Send it back to Amazon. I do doubt that it was the EXACT battery that Apple uses. If Apple had installed it, you would have left the store with a functioning MBP battery.

The battery from Amazon is OEM by Apple. I do believe it.
Sig, greetings; I certainly will take your word for it and stand corrected. That is news since Apple seemed to have had a proprietary lock on the batteries. Actually that is good news. I have my #0 triwing driver ready.

That's for a 15" 1286 early 2011.

I have the same problem. Suddenly my Macbook Pro 13' early 2011 stoped charging the battery. The LED on magsafe is always green, the Mac doesn't even recognize the battery. I've replaced the battery and nothing changed. I believe it's something about the logic board. I hear a lot of users complaining about the same issue. That's a pitty.
