Cant get my iPad when texting to identify me correctly

I've tried everything to try to get my ipad to ID when texting as IPAD instead of my iphone? I've set up a apple account for the ipad, set up new contacts and still when I send a text from my ipad to my iphone, my text on the iphone IDs the text as from my iphone? I am send in the text from my ipad email account to my mobile phone (iphone number). Can anyone explain how can I ID my ipad as "ipad" when texting from it. Thanks.

Uncheck your phone number in the Messages settings and select your Apple ID email address as the address at which you can receive and send messages from.

Settings>Messages>Send & Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at. You should be able to uncheck the iPhone number and check your Apple ID email address in there. Have you tried that?

No this did not solve my problem. I have created a new Apple ID for my iPad and in settings it is the only account "you can be reached by iMessage at:"

This doesn't make sense to me. If you created a new Apple ID - your email address should be associated with that ID. If your phone number is associated with another Apple, I don't see any way how the phone number can be associated with another Apple ID. As far as I know that's impossible.

Am I misunderstanding you perhaps?

And by the way, .... I hope the Black & Gold can turn it around this season.

I actually created a new contact in Contacts call iPad@myemailaddress.com. I did not assocate that contact with a phone number as iMessage on the iPad 2 does not have phone capablities. How do I associate that contact as "Me" like in address book? Maybe I have to do that on the iPad to get it to ID the device when texting?

OK, I think I get what you were trying to do but it doesn't work that way.

You actually have to have a working email address - a real email address in order to do this. You don't just create a contact in the contacts app. Watch this video for more information.

I do have it to a working email address. I have sent and recieved email to it. it is ipad@thinkipm.com. Give it a try. Thanks.

And that is the email address set up on the iPad as mail. When I get the email, it IDs it as from iPad@thinkipm.com.

You shouldn't post your email address on a public forum.

Well I misunderstood again. The email address has to be verified by Apple before you can use it form Messages. Did you have it verified by Apple.

Settings>Messages>Send and Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at>add another email address. You have to add the email address there and Apple will verify it. When you see that the email address has been verified, you have to go the the inbox of that email account and follow the instructions from Apple to complete the verification process.

after the email address is verified, you can select it as the contact address in Messages. I know the iPad is not a phone, but you actually can associate your iPhone number with the iPad for Messages.

It is not letting me add another account because iPad@myemailaddress.com is already in there. How do I delete that account and do the process over? Do I delete it in Mail? Thanks.

If the email address is in use can't you check it to use it and uncheck the iPhone number? Isn't that working for you? But is that email address the one listed under "you can be reached by iMessages at"?

I did get the verification email from apple and uncheck and delete my iphone number to the account. I rebooted the iPad and sent a text to my iphone and it is still IDing the iPad as Marshall iPhone. Oh well. It is just really confusing when I text my wife from the iPad. She gets it and thinks it is coming from my iphone, Sometimes she responds to it and I am no longer on the iPad and on my iPhone... and I don't get her text because it went to the iPad. She says I sent you a text, it said iPhone. When I test it now, I'll send a text to my iPhone from the iPad and it say on my iPhone lockscreen, Text from Marshall iPhone??? Oh well. Thanks so much for trying but what ever I do I cannot get the iPad to ID itseld as IPAD no matter what I do.
