How can I get a MP42 to play in Quicktime?

The video file has been received from a Mac and is now played in Windows 7. Is there a converter I can use to play these as I need them for my dissertation and am rather lost? All I see in QT is a black screen.

Hello cheekywallaby,

According to your post looks like some required codecs are not present in your system. Therefore you just get black screen instead of pictures. You should find what is the video encoding (format) and the install the required codec in your Mac computer. Take a look at below post to get all the details about it.
