Macbook Pro connectivity errors/timeouts

Hi,

When my Macbook Pro disconnects from my internet, I can not reconnect unless I reset the modem.

I have to do this every time it disconnects, or it won't reconnect. I'll turn the WiFi on and off, and it'll detect the modem and recognize it has full signal,

but when I go to connect it says 'a connection timeout occured' every single time, without fail. And the only remedy is to reset the modem, which is

ridiculous. I live in an area of poor connection, but surely this can't be right?

(I used to have a windows laptop and I was able to manually fix the problem on it without having to reset the modem, but every kind of diagnostics I try

to on a mac leads to the 'connection timeout' again).

Can somebody please help?
