Initial setup without wifi

Hi - I just opened the box on my new iPod touch 4 and followed the steps till the screen that says "Connect to iTunes". (no wifi)

What's next? the only option is "back" or "start over". iTunes is open, internet connection is live, I'm signed into the iTunes store. Tapping anything on the screen has no effect. I read some of the other posts but they don't seem to apply...

(BTW the device does not appear in the left menu of my iTunes screen... nor does it appear under Devices in Finder. I have retried and restarted to no avail.)

What am I missing?

Thanks, David

Does the iPod show under Devices in iTunes?

If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar

If not:

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X

You need OSX 10.6.8 or later and iTunes 10.7 or later. iTunes 11 is the latest.
