Macbook air mainboard failed

I have a macbook air from 16 months ago

suddenly it´s stopped working.

I took the Macbook to Apple technical support in Chile (MacOnline) and the support people reviewed the equipment and the diagnosis was that the motherboard is faulted, the cost of repairing the equipment is the same as buying a new computer which does not have make sense.

I am very disappointed in the quality of the Mac Air, I can not believe that only worked for 16 months

anyone know if there is a manufacturing defect associated with this model?

My daughter is having the same problem with her Macbook Air. She just took it into a repair shop and they are telling her that its probably a mainboard issue, and they have seen quite a few. So after she worked her butt off for a whole summer to buy her Macbook to take with her for her first year of college that it is now going to cost $1000.00 to repair her $1300.00 laptop. That's just insane. She purchased it all by herself and even put a $150.00 case on it. She was so upset and being told its a issue they have seen a few times. Apple you need to fix this issue and recall because its not fair consumers have to pay to repair an issue that your company put into their Macbooks. I guess its time to make this issue known to all consumers and media.
