Cannot transfer pictures from old Droid to MacBook Pro

I purchased a new iPhone two days ago and need to get the pictures from my old Motorola Droid. Have tried attaching Droid directly with USB cable to my MacBook Pro -- nothing "pops up" to be opened. I took the microdisc out of the Droid, put it into a microdisc adaptor, and tried hooking up a disc reader to the MacBook, still nothing. Verizon can't help me, and calling Apple directly also was no help. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! ElyArtist

As far as I know, Verizon insists that the only way to get stuff off your non-iPhone is to PAY to transfer the data across their cellular network.
