That is a listing for the correct drive model, however, I would be wary of the initial few that have the lowest price.

They don't list the cache size of the drive and may be selling old stock of the previous model (same model number but 32 MB cache, not 64 MB).

Verify that the drive being sold IS IN FACT the SATA rev. 3 64 MB cache model.

That is the more desired of the two. The old one is fine (real fast IOPS), but, I'd go for the cache....

SSD doesnt require anything like this aswell?

No jumpers on SSDs.

do i leave 80gig internal in place and Instal SSD in empty slot then transfer all DATA on HD?

You only want to put the OS and applications on the SSD.

Photo libraries, Music libraries, movies, basically the home folder contents of your user account should go to a second drive or remain on the 80 gig for now.

Read this tip that I made and ask me if you have any more questions (this is for when you get your new, second drive.):

As for how best to get OS and apps over, well, you can either clone or install fresh and use migration assistant.

I would opt for the latter; fresh install, migrate apps.

If you have all of your files/stuff/junk fitting in 40gig of an 80gig drive, why are people recommending 256gig ssd and a 2terabyte hd?

Just get the 256gig ssd.

I quess there would be some bus contention with only one drive, but SSD gotta be faster than HD. Try it You can always add another dirve later.

Do you have your data backked up???

How to copy your old hd data to a new dirve. One done you can use the software for backing up new drives.

Here are two utilities for making a complete backup of your internal hard drive. I've recommend using one of these so that you can create a bootable system on your external hard drive. ( PPC require a firewire connected drive. ) Once created, you can run your system from the external drive. Hold down the option key on your keyboard then power on your machine. This will bring you in startup manager click on the drive image you wish to boot then click on the arrow key to the right.

You have a thousand cars going from point a to b. Which is faster and more efficient, one lane or two?

Along with previous explanations, recording multiple tracks of music, reading, writing, calling application function, OS function and multiple plug in function places high demands on a single bus and drive.

The G5 has two independent bus, so, run applications and OS from one drive and write files and VM to a second.

This is a proven performance technique, especially with pro applications in AV work.

SSDs are recognized as high performance, but may not do so well, over the long run, with high write erase activity.

The discussed 2 TB drives happen to be very high performance and happen to have a good price per GB.

The reason I would like to check this drive out is I may just use as an internal if it has some nice application programs I can use and just get a external 2TB for storage. Would that work out as well or should I just transfer what I like off this 320gb drive on to an external? Hmmm.... Maybe that's what I'll do...ok I'll do that. The SSD for boot drive and 2TB for storage. But I'm still curious to install this 320GB drive and browse for anything I may be able to use for my PROTOOLS rig such as plugins. I just want to make sure sliding this drive into my MAC is not gonna freak out my system. here are the specs of the drive, MDL: WD3200AAJS-41VWA0 Date: 02 may 2008 DCM: HHRNHTJCAN... LET ME KNOW IF ITS SAFE TO PLUG THIS DRIVE IN AND BROWSE IT.
