How to connect an audio mixer to a Macbook Pro / Garageband?

If the mixer has audio line-out, and your MacBookPro has an audio line-in you can record the output of the mixer in Garageband. Your mixer has two outputs - 1) 2x RCA and 2) 2x 1/4" TRS. You will need a cable with one pair of connectors matching the mixer output you want to use, and on the other end a single 3/8" (aka 2.5mm) male stereo plug to connect to your MacBookPro.

In GarageBand you will record from the audio input. There is no "connection" between the mixer and GarageBand per se.

Note: You didn't say what model MacBookPro you have. In the current lineup, only the 15" MacBookPro still has audio line-in. Check yours to make sure it has an audio-in port.

In the current MBP lineup, only the 15" MacBookPro still has audio line-in. The current 13" MBP does not have an audio-in. You will need to find a USB or FW device that can interface between your mixer and your MBP. The Alesis PhonoLink is one of the least expensive such devices.

I got macbook pro 13'' version 10.8.3 and an audio mixer (Behringer Xenyx 502) connecting a c1 condenser microphone. I got output cable 2x RCA to 3.5 mm . i cant see any audio input in my macbook it has only one port for headphone and I try connect it to my macbook using garageband but its not working. Do i need any other cables ? Please help?

I have a macbook pro 13" bought in 2013, trying to record from a behringer djx700 mixer using an RCA-USB cable but when I look for the input options only the internal microphone is available. Is it not compatible?

Same problem mate,the headphone socket is both in/out when you go into sound preference it should give you another line in option but mine doesn't,
