X11

Hello,

I was looking for a rendering software to use with Google Sketchup and I was directed to a software called Kerkythea. I tried installing it and installation failed. Upon researching I realized that this software needs X11 to be installed. I really don't understand X11 but I have read that it used to be part of the tools in OSX prior to ML which is what I am running now. I did download X11 from a site and installed it. The software required me to log out and back in so that the X11 is my default server of some sorts. In any case the Kerkytea is still not installing successfully.

I wanted to know if this X11 is something that could potentially harm my computer. It seems like it is a Unix application used by scientists and I am not a scientist. Do you recommend me uninstalling this sftware?

Thanks in advance.
