My MacBook keeps beeping every 25 seconds.

MacBook Pro 15" non-retnia. 4 months old. I hardly shut it down, maybe have 3x in 4 months, Genuis said that was fine.

This morning when I opened the cover, it was frozen, I couldn't move my mouse. Then the beeping started. It beeps every 25 seconds.

I muted it and shut it down but the beeping continued while off. I am able to boot back up and use the computer but the beeping continues. There are no updates available, nor have I updated anything recently.

Anyone know what is going on and how I can stop it?

Thanks,
Saraant

You can check on your battery anytime by clicking the apple in the left corner of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power and see what it says about Charge Remaining, Capacity, battery Condition, Cycle count. The condition should always be Normal unless there is a problem. The ratio of the charge remaining to the capacity should be the same as the percentage charge indicated on the right end of the menu bar, allowing for roundoff. Most Lithium-Ion batteries have a cycle life of 1,000 cycles, but the cycle life doesn't necessarily mean it will fail at that point, just that the capacity is less than 80% of the as-built capacity.

Ok, now I am going to sound like the biggest idiot here (if I didn't already by spelling Genius wrong lol)

But I heard the beep differently that last time and it didn't sound good, sounded like there was static interferance... that's when I realized my BF had his walkie-talkie on the table next to me and the battery was beeping "low batt"

UGH! Anyway, I'm so happy it's not my Mac!!!

Sorry to waste anyone's time!

Not a waste of time, good to here the problem wasn't the MBP itself, well other than a low battery 😀

Even though you didn't ask, a good way to treat the battery is to only discharge to 50% before recharging, deep discharging regularly to shtudown is actually not good for Lithium-Ion batteries. The best balance for use/charge/cycle life seems to be in the neighborhood of 50% cycling...gives about 4 to 5 times the cycle life of a battery regularly fully discharged.

You can leave the MBP plugged in, the charging circuit senses when the battery is fully charged and shuts off, then when the battery drops below 95-93% charge, restarts and tops off the battery, and keeps following that pattern. Best advice is unplug once a month and discharge to 50% then recharge. Follow that pattern if you like for a longer cycle-life for the battery.
