Is there a way to transfer all of my photos in my iPhone's Photo Albums and Events to my new macbook?

My MacBook's hardrive failed. My only backup for iPhoto is on my iPhone. I bought a new MacBook Pro and I'd like to restore all the Photo Albums and Events from my iPhone. Is there a 3rd party app that is capable of this?

I downloaded iMacsoft to transfer music, books, etc. But it will only transfer photos in my iPhone's Camera Roll.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Are these photos on your iPhone? Can you actually see them? If so, then iCloud should see them as well. All else fails, plug in the iPhone via a USB cable into the new Mac and iPhoto will launch showing you what photos you can import in.

Again, the old photos in question MUST be on the iPhone (i.e. you at one time sync'd your entire photo library to your iPhone, which to my knowledge also makes it available to the iCloud backup if you have enough room).

What I need is a 3rd party app that accesses the root file for all photos on my iPhone - not just the Camera Roll. Apple put this article out saying iTunes is not capable of doing what I need and what you are saying:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1209

The reason why I can't use iCloud is becuase my photos are on a 2009 MacBook with an older copy of iPhoto that wasn't compatible with iCloud. Therefore, my photos were never backed up to iCloud. Now that hardrive is shot. And the iPhone is incapable of sync'ing photos with iCloud that are not in it's Camera Roll.

What iCloud could do is sync photos I have in iPhoto '11 on my new MacBook Pro to any other device with Photo Stream. Problem is, all my photos are still stuck in my iPhone and I haven't been able to fined any support from Apple to recover those photos.

I do appreciate your help, though.

Unless there's something I'm unaware of, there is no special backup iPhoto makes of your photos on the Mac it's running on and secretly storing them on your iOS device you connect to it. If it did, then on the new Mac, iPhoto on it would be able to see those photos when you plug in your iPhone and iPhoto launches asking you which photos/videos you want to import in.

Only other app that I know of that give you complete control over the file system on an iOS device is iExplorer. See here... http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/

iExplorer is exactly what I need, thanks for the help. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't support transfer of photos back to a computer unless it's in your Camera Roll.

Directly from Apple:

Photos synced from a computer

iTunes cannot transfer photos back to a computer, make sure to back up your original photos. On iOS devices you can use Photo Stream3 or the sharing features built into iOS.

No, it is not easy to get synced photos back to the Mac. An iCloud backup does not include the synced photos nor the Photo Stream photos. See:

iCloud: Backup and restore overview

One way to save the synced photos back to the Mac is to save them to the Camera Roll. This requires extra space on the device and much tapping, because it is not easy to save all photos at once to the Camera Roll. It would be easier with iPhoto iOS. Here you can share the the synced photos to iTunes and then save them using iTunes photo sharing on your Mac. In iPhoto you can select ranges of photos to share - much less tapping required. Save photos to your computer using iTunes

  • Connect your iOS device to your computer.
  • Tap a photo, album, event, web journal, or slideshow and tap User uploaded file > iTunes.
  • Tap Selected, or change the photos you want to save (if you are saving a slideshow skip to step 4):
    • Select different photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap one or more photos, and tap Next.
    • Select a range of photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap Range, tap the first and last photos in the range, and tap Next.
    • Select all the photos in an album or event: Tap All.
  • In iTunes, click the button for your device User uploaded file and click Apps at the top of the window.
  • Below File Sharing, select iPhoto (in Apps).
  • Select the Shared Photos folder under iPhoto Documents.
  • Click Save To and select the location on your computer where you want to save the items.
  • To view your photos, go to the Finder and look in the location you selected above.

I had my Mac Book Pro wiped and thought I had a copy of everything backed up on an external drive. I lost thousands of pictures due to an iPhoto setup that doesn't save photos etc. I did not use ICLOUD which I wish I would have. I know keep a file on my desk top with copies of all my photos. I had an really old IBOOK that had some of the old photos on and found some flash drives and SD cards I had not deleted, but lost some photos I am really sad about. It is what it is and now I know. Save photos on an external drive or you are outta luck!

Is there a way to transfer all of my photos in my iPhone's Photo Albums and Events to my new macbook?
