how to install an application program from a disk on a 2012 MAC mini using a 2009 MAC Mini with an optical drive.

I have just purchased a 2012 MAC Mini which doesn't have an optical drive. I migrated my files from a 2009 MAC Mini but some applications can't find needed files. I'd like to install the software on the 2012 from the 2009's optical drive but I'm not sure how to do this. Is this done by Sharing the computers? I have transferred data files by drag/drop but this wouldn't work with applications that store various components in different directories. I have average knowledge of computers but I'm not technically savy. Both computers are using a Philips flat screen display accessed through separate HDMI cables on different ports on the TV. Display access is done by changing ports. Any suggestions?

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), The 2009 MAC Mini is running 10.7.5

You should see a Remote Disc icon under Devices in Finder on your 2012 Mini. Insert your application DVD into the 2009's drive. Go to Sharing and check the DVD or CD Sharing. Go to your 2012 Mini and click on the Remote Disc icon. You should see your 2009 Mini and the DVD that's in its optical drive. Double click the DVD in Remote Disc and away you go!

Note: There is a checkbox on the DVD or CD Sharing screen for "Ask me before allowing others to use my DVD drive". You can uncheck that so you don't have to always ask to use it on the 2012 and reply from the 2009 to accept the request.
