iOS 6.1.2 - "Request Timed Out" - iOS App Store Updates

Since upgrading my iPhone 5 and iPad mini to iOS 6.1.2, the "Updates" tab of the App Store no longer loads. It shows a blank screen for a long time and sometimes then shows a popup "The request timed out". The badge count over the App Store icon still shows a number, both on the home screen and over the "Updates" tab icon in the App Store.

I have tried restarting, and on both wifi and cellular. The rest of the App Store appears to work and load normally.

One or two tweets on this but not much else so thought I'd start a topic. Anyone else got this?

Having the exact same problem after updating iOS 6.1.2 on both my iPhone 5 and my iPad mini. Tried over wifi and LTE, multiple restarts, hard closing the App Store App, none of which worked. My co-worker tried on his iPhone 5 with the update and he's having the same problem so I'm guessing it's an App Store problem.

Next step is to find out:

If anyone using 6.1.2 is not having problems with the Updates section
If anyone using 6.1.1 or earlier is also having this problem

...to try and understand if this is a problem with the update or with the App Store Update servers.

I guess we need to log this with Apple? Anyone have the link?

Try it again...

All is working fine now. I didn't have to reset network settings or anything like that. It just started working...at least here on my end.

I had to hard close the App Store app in the quick launch bar, then relaunch the app. After that the updates appeared on both my devices. Seems the problem has been resolved.

Yep its working for me now too (hard closed the app). Must have been server-side. Crisis avoided!

You said you can't use your phone at all; the manual will help you learn how to use the phone.

This thread is specifically related to the problem described at the top of the page (Updates section not working), which appears to have been resolved. If you are experiencing a different problem with your phone, you will need to search the discussions / raise a new discussion topic / call Apple / search Google etc etc

im trying to update my software and after backing up my phone it just stop and went to restore recovery and i cant use my phone at all coz it needed to connect to itunes.

You'll need to plug it into the computer running iTunes and do a restore. Search the discussions and there will be instructions on how to do this.

I have the same problem as the original poster, running an iPad 2 with the latest iOS updates. The proposed solution (the problem seems to have just gone away for some users) does not hold true for me.

I have closed and re-started the App Store app, to no avail. Also, the rest of the app store is available, just not updates. The app badge shows that nine updates are available, but clicking on the Updates tab always results in a wait of several minutes, and then a message that "The request timed out" with no further information.

Next I will try re-starting the iPad itself. Since many, many others are having the same issue, I would suspect Apple is aware of the problem, despite the customary lack of acknowledgement.

Try this - Go search for a different app (Search tab at the bottom of the screen) and upon returning to the Update tab, it cleared itself...I have no idea why this worked, but it for me.
