How do you rename an iPhoto library?
The title says it all.

It is a specail folder called a package and you rename it exactly like any other folder - select it in the finder and enter the new name - then to tell iPhoto what you have done depress the option key and launch iPhoto - use the select library window to tell iPhoto the new name (and location if it have moved)

Where do you find this special folder called "package" ? I coudn't find it on my computer.
by default the iPhoto library package is in your pictures folder and named iPhoto library

Still can't find any files named package or any way to change original name of libraries.
Read the title that "says it all" - the name of the iPhoto library is "iPhoto Library"
By default it is in the pictures folder - if it is not then you have moved it and only you know where it is - you can use Spotlight to look for it
It is NOT a "file" named Package - it is a Package - The package is named, as you stated in the begining, "iPhoto Library"

What are you trying to do? There is usually is no reason to rename the iPhoto library - I would suggest that with your lack of really basic knoledge you are in grave danger of making a mistake and losing your photos
In any case you must have a good backup so when something goes wrong you cn recover

Thanks for your answer. The problem is that I created SEVERAL iPhoto libraries: they are named as follows:
iPhoto Library
iPhoto Library 2011
iPhoto Library 4
iPhoto Library mac HD
iPhoto Library mac HD
iPhoto Library Select
iPhoto Library-portable
James Library
I keep most libararies on my external (portable) drive. 2 are on my mac HD and as you see both have the same name so I have to open each to figure what's what. I wish I could consolidate these 2 but don't know how to do it. Anyway, I would like to give those libraries more meaninfgul names to me, or consolidate them into fewer libraries. I have purcahsed long a go software called "Library Mangager" but I found it to be pretty uselss.
Thanks for any suggestions.
If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager. Read the help on that app. It'll tell you what to so.
Not sure if you have the renaming yet

As TD says iplm can be used to merge libraries (I recommend merging into a new library so if anything goes wrong you still have the two original libraries - once you have tested teh merged library and have a few successful backup cycles on it you can delete the original libraries

Thanks, I imported all my libraries as one library to Aperture, so I don't reallly have to worry about renaming them, though I need to clean up the projects, lots of junk. Since there are so many photos it takes me a while to open this one library, but I'm getting a Thunderbolt external hard drive, so I hope this will help to open it faster.
