Are you supposed to be able to share your computer screen with AirPlay Mirroring?
We got an AppleTV for the office because we wanted to share our laptop screens to a bigger screen. Is this even possible?

Yes. AirPlay Mirroring will mirror one Mac's display to AppleTV.
To share screens use the Finder's Screen Sharing feature - enable it in each Mac using System Preferences > Sharing, and check the Screen Sharing or Remote Management checkbox. Then, on the Mac you wish to mirror, select the Mac whose screen you wish to share in a Finder sidebar and click the Share Screen... button.
