MacBook Pro and Palm Vx

I got my MacBook Pro 3 weeks ago. I work in IT and use PCs all the time. I was told before I bought it that it would sync with my dinosaur Palm Vx with no problem. Wrong! I'm not mad, I just want to share my experience so others will know. I bought an IOGear serial to USB cable, which turns out won't work with 10.4.6. Many of these adapters won't. I found one by Sewell Direct that said it would work. I have tried to locate Palm USB Connect and its not even on their website. I consulted a Mac Genius who couldn't figure it out. He thought maybe the adapter driver wasn't configured to work with an Intel Mac. Its almost there, but won't sync. So, I decided I don't need all this technology. I put my calendar and to dos into iCal and downloaded to my iPod so I can read them on the run. I exported a .csv from my old Outlook on my PC and a Genius helped me reformat it, through Entourage I think, and imported it to Address Book. I need to do a bunch of clean up but I downloaded that onto my iPod too. This way I can see my important stuff when I'm not with my computer, and listen to music, and not carry an extra gadget. I'm good with this. But if anyone has tips on getting the Palm to sync with this configuration, please let me know. Do the newer Palms and Blackberries sync ok with an Intel Mac using 10.4.6? I'm not rushing out to buy anything new until they've worked out the kinks. Or maybe I won't. Maybe I'm a complete convert to Apple. I love my new MacBook and iPods are really cool.

Did you try to install Palm Software from http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/ ? That would give you the PalmDesktop application and all the software behind to sync with your palm.
I don't know how it works with macbook and intel but it's the way I'm doing for years now my olp PMac, and the mac PalmDesktop is much better than the pc one 😉
hth et toute cette sorte de choses ..

Hello "CirclingTiger"
I had an old Palm III with an adb port but I of course needed an usb/serial adapter when I bought an IMac (long time ago 😉 running system 9. I had to use the pc craddle as there was no usb/adb but it worked fine and even later with this PowerMac and 10.1, as far I remind. But now I use usb, since I have a treo, but I put it back tonight and I can see it in Panther via USB Prober (a little tool installed with Develloper tools) : still recognized, so it's like thoses adapters could be ze zolution ?
Did you have a look at keyspan ? http://www.keyspan.com/ They have a Mac OS Section with Tiger compatibility inside.
I am waiting for my MacBook pro (shipping the 05/31..) so I don't have Tiger neither a MacIntel at the moment to tell you more.
