Exporting File now takes forever

Is it since the upgrade to FC X 10.0.7 that the exports take ages to do? I have a 2.8 Gb movie using 466 compression and it takes an hour to transpher to desktop.

Also, on topic:

What is the best format or way to export to a jump drive, to send someone a movie so that they can use whatever compression they want and I don't have to wait ages to export?

Thanks, Gary

I've been using FCP X off and on since v 10.0.3 and my export times remain good. Make sure you have 20% or greater space left on your boot drive. Also run Activity Monitor doring slow downs to see if you spot anything odd,.

As far as best format is concerned, h.264 mov would be fine…if the PC users have Quick Time, it should be grreat for them as wel.

Good luck.

Thanks Russ.

Good tip re Activity monitor and drive space. I must have hidden files on my hard drive that is taking a lot of space. Best way to find them?

Also H.264 did not work for client as artifacts appear. I wish FCP X had options to just keep the compatable compression for my HDV camera (Sony HDV ViU). For example list it in "share". Or have you found a way?

Thanks, Gary

First, select one of the clips in the browser, right-click and select transcode media. Do you have any options there? You shouldn't.

Next check project properties Cmd-J and click the gear in the lower right. The drop down sheet should look something like this

Unless Ladysmith is South Africa, in which case it will probably be in a PAL frame rate, if Ladysmith in Canda it will be more like this.

re transcode media - options

optimized or proxy. There is a check in proxy

Re Project properties. i just found that there is no separate window that opens for P properties but then realized it comes up in the i Info window.

(I grab it as a tiff but cannot move the pic into this reply)

It has all the info as your illustration except does not have render format

Thanks for sticking with me. I have a 3 movie show this Monday.
