How can I give a vpn user a static ip address?

I have OS X Lion server setup to accept vpn connections.

I am connecting to the OS X Lion server from my macbook pro via L2TP over IPSec.

The connection works fine however I keep getting a different ip when I connect.

I would like to somehow reserve the IP that my macbook pro is assigned so that I can always have the same IP address.

I have attempted to change the Settings on my macbook pro to use "Manual" instead of PPP for the setting under the TCP/IP tab and hand enter an IP address but it seems to get ignored when I connect to the VPN server.

The address starting range that my OS X server assigns is 192.168.10.224. I've tried to manually set .223, .227 and neither have been accepted.

Any help would be appreciated.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2009), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
