ONLY NOW we find out that Apple KNOWS about this and refuses to repair it!

It's perfectly possible to save photos. One - count it - one feature was broken in 10.8.2. Hopefully it will be repaired in 10.8.3. If you "only now" find out that Apple knows, then you need to kep up. There is no proof at all that Apple "refuses" to repair it, only that it hasn't released a fix yet. And obviously you didn't know Apple very well when Steve was there.

The latest iPhoto version I can find in the App Store, and after running software update, is 9.4.2. This feature appears to be "broken" in it too....I can understand our hoping it gets fixed in the next version....but, my "question is How, where, did you get 10.8.2?"
This problem is an OS problem not an iPhoto one, so it will take an OS update to fix it, not an iPhoto one.
10.8.2 is the current version of the Operating System. I got it from Software Update, like everyone else does.
