I had a laptop which broke and that is what I synced my iphone/ipad/and multiple other family members phones off of. So I just purchased a brand new Imac, and was wondering if I could sync it to my imac without losing everything?

I take it you cannot access your Old computer and you did not create and maintain a Backup of iTunes...?

I was actually just able to start it up and have my old laptop work for the first time in a month or two. i transferred my music over, which is all I was really worried about. I just dont want to lose my apps or contacts. So look at the 2 discussions above to fix it?

It was an HP laptop. I used a network transfer and it is now in my itunes library working and all
If you can access your iTunes Library on the Old PC... and to have EVERYTHING as it was on the New Mac...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

I dont have an external hard drive. My only thing I am worried about is losing all of my apps. is that going to happen regardless?
You won't lose them as such because you can redownload them... But you may Lose any Data associated with them.
If I may suggest...
External Hard Drives are fairly inexpensive these days and if you decide to go that way... After the Successful Transfer of your Old iTunes Library to the New Mac you could use the EHD as a Time Machine Backup Drive for that Mac.
