Why does my ipod touch battery die within 10 minutes of taking it off charge?

I will have my ipod touch, 4th Gen, on charge all night. I wake up, unplug the charger, check my facebook or play a game and I am getting told there's 20% battery left... 2 minutes later, it dies.

Why is this?

Hello,

I am currently an owner of an Ipod Touch 4th generation. I see you are having problems with your Ipod/Ipad/Iphone, so I will try to find a solution to your problem.🙂

  • It seems like a hardware issue.
  • I would make an appointment at a Genius Bar of an Apple Store
  • Hard Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds or until Apple logo appears (nothing will be lost)
  • Reset all settings: SETTINGS>GENERAL>RESET>RESET ALL SETTINGS
  • Do not ever, restore from a backup, as Issues may get back on the Ipod

This has helped me when having battery issues:

  1. Do the IOS update (the one that is the latest, or if you already did or have it downloaded, then proceed to step 2)
  2. Reset All Settings: SETTINGS>GENERAL>RESET>RESET ALL SETTINGS
  3. Use it until it dies (automatically shuts off)
  4. Plug into Charge
  5. Leave it 1.5 hours or longer after it reaches 100% --> Undisturbed (preferably overnight)
  6. Give it a few days to Calibrate

This has helped me on my Ipod Touch 4th generation, running IOS 6.0.1

Hope that helps!

If none of the above solutions work, can you please respond back ASAP as I will try to find another solution to your problem (This might even help others with the same problem!)

Cheers!

It's very possible that your battery is failing. If the reset or the restore from backup or to factory settings does not solve your problem, you likely need a new battery. Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished 4 gen iPod with a new battery for $79 (free if it is still under warranty). Or google for replace iPod battery to find a local store or online shop that will replace the battery in your existing iPod for less. You can even buy a battery on line for $10-20 and do the replacement yourself if you are up to it.
