MacBook Air unable to function independent of power adapter

it says the battery is not charging on my MacBook Air 11'. however once it's connected to the charger it works fine but once I disconnect it it turns off automatically. Also no light appears on the led on the charger when it's connected. I've tried to reset the SMC, but not sure if I did it right because I had to do it disconnected to the charger because when I connect it it turns on automatically. I've also tried plugging it into various different plugs in the house. I would be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions!

It could be the charger, it could be the SMC, it could be the battery, it could be something internal, e.g, logic board. The simplest thing to do is to take it to an authorized service place; they will be able to test your machine and pinpoint the problem.

In the meantime, if you press option and look at the Apple menu and select "System Information", what does it say under "Power", specifically "Battery Information" ?
