I have a new mac pro but it has two users since i used migration assistant. How can I have just one up to date user with all my old stuff? How do I prepare my old macbook for my son to use - remove all data?

I have a new mac pro 15" to replace my old macbook. I missed the opportunity to use start up and had to use migration helper to move all my data. Now I have two users 😟 I just want one user with all my old data running on this nice new computer!!! Should I delete one of the users? There is nothing on the new user's account. But my original user's photobooth won't work on my new computer.... does this old user still have access to all the benifits of my new computer or is it running an older program? I don't really understand what's going on. Also - how do I erase all the information from my old computer (without the initial start up disk that is lost) so my son can have it - should I de-authorize iTunes? Please help... I am very computer illiterate and I need things spelt out abc - like! Thank you! Pauline

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Thanks for this reply but I still cannot see what to do.

I understand that my predicament must be a cause of frustration for this forum since I gather that it is often asked, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating for me!! There is obviously an issue here that Apple need to deal with - some kind of warning that when you first turn your computer on - with all the delight and curiosity that that brings - that you should woah, slow down and heed everything it's telling you because you'll only get the ONE easy chance to have just ONE user!!!!! So frustrating!!!!! My husband is insisting I wipe the OS totally and use Ubunto instead, but I loved using my Macbook and this one looks just as lovely if only I could work it out! If I delete one of the users will that solve my problems?

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.

Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.

After this, do an update from the App Store.

Thats all there is to it.

For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.

Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.

There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.
