iPhone 4S Speaker Problem after IOS 6.1 update

i have updated my iphone 4S to iOS 6.1.1 update but noticed no sound is coming out from the external speaker after the update (ringer / music / sounds). Tried toggling mute buttons, clean dock connector, plug/unplug headset but no luck. Yesterday, I have updated to latest update IOS 6.1.2 but still no luck. Did hard reset / restore.... restore and another series of hard resets but still no luck.

It seems like its a software problem since I never had this issue prior to updating my iphone.

Appreciate advice/suggestion.

Thanks

i have an iphone 4s as well. I did the 6.1.1 and then the 6.1.2 to fix the 6.1.1. Now when I plug my phone into my car the music will not come through the car speakers. This is with either the AUX or the USB connection. It's weird because musci will come through headphones/earbuds. the car controls worked to change the songs. My friend's phone (she had not done the 6.1.2 update yet) also worked appropriately.

I'm trying a hard rest now, but based on what I've seen....I'm not hopeful.

I'm also having the same problems. No sound from Music, Video, Msg & Apps etc, but do still have a ring tone. I've done a full back up and still have the same problems. It sometimes works when the earphones are in, but not always. Also when I'm on Wifi it has the options of dock connector, Airport Express or Apple TV but not iPhone.

I followed instructions from other threads about using Accesibiity option through General Settings menu and this helps sometimes when the phone 'mutes' itself but not always.

All these problems only appeared after downloading 6.1.2 last week. Very frustrating as Apple Store have told me they can look at it, but if it's a hardwear issue it will cost me HKD1,500 to replace. (US193).

I don't want to take it in and be charged HKD1,500 then find out it is a bug in the new iOS.

so i also had no alert/video/music sounds and no volume controls after the ios 6.1.2. update. i had the exact same problems as everyone here. i hard reset. i restored my phone. i reset it to the last backup that i knew had audio. i cleaned the heck out of the dock. i docked and pressed buttons. i did everything this thread suggested to do. i even downloaded the gangnam dancebooth. yeah. i did it all. and then my sister took my earphone plug and pumped it up and down in the headset jack. and yup. now my audio and speakers are working. wth. so if you haven't tried this, try it. it worked for me. after three days of researching and trying every suggestion possible, all that i needed to do was pump the crud out of the jack. still completely miffed by the success and incrediby thankful.

i hope this works for you!

good luck!

I'm having speaker issues too. It only works on certain aps. It will ring and Siri will interact with me, but no music, no internet noise, no clicks, cannot change the volume. All of this happened after the newest update. I went into the store and told them this. They told me it was my phone. I told them other people were having the same problem and they didn't believe me. I am printing this thread and going back to them this weekend. I'm irrate, because they tried to convince me I needed to buy a new phone!

I was having this same issue, and had to turn off my bluetooth for any sound to come from the phone, now I hear the ringtone and alerts, but when I turn my bluetooth on it all goes silent except through the bluetooth, which I do not walk around wearing like a dork. So this is def. an upgrade issue with 6.1.2, did not happen prior.

This is not a coincidence, my phone was working fine on ios5 but I was tricked by apple when I wanted them to unlock my iPhone 4S they said I must update to the latest software which is crap and unnecessary, as soon as I update to 6.1.3 my speaker is gone, no ringing, no music no message alert nothing is coming out of the speaker I can only hear by using a headphone which I absolutely hate. Plus my warranty has just expired what can I do this is so terrible, iPhone is just full of crap.

Tried cleaning the dock, hard reset to factory settings, restored everything but still isn't working, any further suggestion, I've tried everything recommended on all the forums. Held back forever to update his phone but stupid apple said I have to to get it unlocked and now I'm stuck with a mute phone

I am having the same problem. Everything works on my phone except the speaker. I can hear ringtones, music, video, etc only through headphones or a docking station. I called Apple support, and they told me since my phone is out of warranty by 2 months it will cost $200 to fix. I am not happy. I use an Otterbox and bear the mocking for carrying around a case built for a construction worker so I don't have to deal with broken phones. This should not be happening. A speaker should last for more than 14 months. And if it doesn't, it should be fixed. Free of charge.

Ditto on the string of comments regarding the problems with no external sound. If this problem is extensive then that is bad press I'm more ways than one. Several of the great selling points for the IPhones are related to quality and reliability of the hardware and the software, so if those elements are compromised, why pay more? Regardless of whether this is widespread or just moderately significant, one would think it is in the best interest of Apple to address the issues ASAP in this community support site as well as the Apple stores and service providers. Otherwise, consumers may think twice about whether the IPhones are worth the premium pricing. Hopefully, Cupertino will respond.
